On this edition of MASALA CANADA I talk to New York based filmmaker and producer Mridu Chandra about, Monitor 5, the New South Asian Short Film and Video Festival she curated for the South Asian Visual Arts Centre (SAVAC). The films will be shown in Toronto, February 26.  
 
Then Qasim Virjee has the latest from IndianElectronica.com which is not only a website and a forum for fans of the music, but also home to a 24 hour radio stream. As of March, Virjee is also adding another radio stream indochill and starting a monthly re-mix competion.  
 
And finally, a big visit to Canada. The first presidential foreign trip of US President Barack Obama was to Canada. We hear what he had to say, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's reactions, and analysis from David Biette, the Executive Director of the Canada Institute, at Washington's Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars.

On the FIRST EDITION of MASALA CANADA we look at the impact of Canadian South Asians on the results of the Canadian election of October 14 with Sunil Rao, the editor of the South Asian Focus newspaper. 
 
Actor and dancer Anita Majumdar tells us about the challenges of her latest play �The Misfit� which is showing at Toronto's Theatre Passe Muraille until November 15. 
 
And I get to talk to a number of scholars of religion about the increasing tendency towards sharing knowledge about each other's religion. And one scholar, Arvind Sharma, focuses on the particular case of India and the attitude of India's intelligentsia towards religion.
